Build It Back
Brooklyn, Staten Island and Queens, NY
After years of working with the community of Sheepshead Bay, Gans and Company became one of several architectural subcontractors to New York City for their post Super Storm Sandy Reconstruction Program, Build it Back, designing individual homes on the mews along the Bay. We worked hard to coordinate with the other city subcontractors in the neighborhood in order to implement the cohesive urban vision we had created with the community. While some architectural features, like the boardwalk, were not constructed, the City will complete a shared water and sewer infrastructure across several mews.
Gans and Company then designed a number of prototypes for Build it Back’s Modular Program launched in 2017 to rebuild the remaining homes destroyed in Super Storm Sandy in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. In total, Gans and Company will have built 102 homes for Build-It Back, 83 of which are modular.
